Lesson Summary

In this lesson, students explored the origins of dreamcatchers as a cultural and spiritual symbol of the Ojibwe tribe, gaining insight into their traditional significance and the meaning behind their elements. They also developed environmental awareness by repurposing CDs as the base for their dreamcatchers. Through an investigation of weaving history and techniques, students examined how contemporary artists reinterpret dreamcatchers today.

Students created identity-based drawings that integrated traditional and personal symbols, then applied weaving techniques to construct their dreamcatchers, blending cultural elements with individual expression.
